In this mini-lesson, students analyze a blood moon and ponder how atmosphere, shadow, and the sky play important roles.
Here are some writing prompts to help students reflect on the mini-lesson. Feel free to copy and paste them into an assignment.
Why does the Moon turn blood red during a lunar eclipse?
What did this lesson make you curious about? What other questions do you have about lunar eclipses?
Bonus Activity: People love to look at the Moon because it’s always changing. You can watch how it changes each month with a Moon Journal! Every night, look for the Moon in the sky. Maybe you see it from your window, or go outside with an adult to look for it. Every night, draw what the Moon looks like, and put the date. Do this for a month. Then, look at your drawings. What do you notice?
