In this mini-lesson, students will learn of the many problems the invention of plastic helped to solve, but they also learn how plastic can harm our environment.
Here are some writing prompts to help students reflect on the mini-lesson. Feel free to copy and paste them into an assignment.
How is plastic made?
What did this lesson make you curious about? What other questions do you have about plastic?
Bonus Activity: Plastic isn’t the only invention with a good side and a bad side. Most inventions are both good and bad. The car is an invention like that. Cars make life easier, but having many cars around causes problems, too. Draw or write your ideas about what’s good and what’s bad about cars. Then think like an inventor. Choose one problem with cars and draw a solution to that problem.
