In the activity, Valentine to My Heart, students make observations about their pulse and heart rate, and make an art project to show appreciation for their hard-working hearts.

Activity

You can feel the beat of your heart! Flatten your hand and put your fingers on one side of your throat, just under your chin. Press gently. Can you feel your heartbeat? Move your hand around until you do. Then try this experiment. Do twenty jumping jacks. Then, feel your heartbeat again. Is it beating at the same speed, faster, or slower? Breathe slowly. How does your heartbeat change?
