In this mini-lesson, students learn about volcanic rock and how it forms.
Here are some writing prompts to help students reflect on the mini-lesson. Feel free to copy and paste them into an assignment.
Bonus Activity: You learned about a rock with lots of little holes in it. Go on a treasure hunt to find your own rock! Find one small enough to fit in your pocket and take it home. Is it smooth or rough? What color is it? Does it change color when you get it wet? Draw your rock. How is your rock the same as the rock with holes? How is your rock different? Make up a story of where you think your rock came from.
