Slide Image
DISCUSS (1 of 2):
What are some properties of ice?
Slide Image
DISCUSS (2 of 2):
Based on those properties, what might be some helpful things about using ice to
make a sculpture? What might be some difficult things?
Slide Image
DISCUSS (1 of 2):
Compared to when it was frozen, how are the properties of the water different
after melting?
Slide Image
DISCUSS (2 of 2):
Could you undo those changes and turn the water back into a sculpture? How?
Slide Image
DISCUSS:
Are there other materials that have the Power to Undo like water?
What have you noticed that tells you that?
Step
01/16
You’ll work with a partner.
Step
02/16
Get your supplies.

03/16
Find your Breakfast Brawl worksheet.
Write egg in the box that says “material 1.”
Write butter in the box that says “material 2.”
Step
04/16
Observe egg. Circle the words that best describe its properties
from the Round 1 section of your worksheet. Write extra words that
describe its properties on the line.
Step
05/16
Observe butter. Circle the words that best describe its properties
from the Round 1 section of your worksheet. Write extra words that
describe its properties on the line.
Step
06/16
Observe the materials after they’ve been heated up.
Circle properties in the Round 2 section for egg and butter.
Write extra words that describe their properties on the line.
Step
07/16
Observe the materials after they’ve been cooled down.
Circle properties in the Round 3 section for egg and butter.
Write extra words that describe their properties on the line.

Think about the changes that you saw with egg and clay.
Why might it be helpful that they CAN'T undo?

In this lesson, students explore the incredible ability of water to reverse back and forth between solid and liquid states, depending on temperature. In the activity, Ultimate Undo Showdown, students make observations of other materials and their properties after being heated up and then cooled down. They use these observations as evidence that some changes are reversible and some are not.
